O.K. let's face it, the 60's were not a good time for the Hanna family. Everyone of us (Carlene, Bill, Glory, David, Catherine and Thomas) can stop and recall countless MAJOR events that happened during those years that has had a lasting effect on how we live in the present.
The "Norman Rockwell" family portrait was on the verge of disintegration, but right before it did Thomas Guthrie was born on this day in 1965. Tom was born into chaos and has lived in chaos his whole life.
Tom, if I were to give you a gift for your birthday it would be the gift of bravery: bravery to battle the demons within, bravey to be real about the issues that keep tripping you up, and bravery to let go of the fact that your family fell apart long before you could do anything to stop it.
Happy Birthday and next year lets eat cake!

I am still waiting for Tom to get his remarks written and edited and then rewritten. I do so remember that day when I was holding that black kitty. He was a sweet baby and really got handed around a lot. I love him more every day even when he does stuff that I would like to plant my foot firmly in or on his bohunkus. Happy Birthday Tom. I want to eat cake with you next year also. Love forever MOM
I can remember on several occasions, when I was real young, wondering what I would be and how I would look when I finally became a full grown man. In a way it seems like that was just days ago; then again, there have been time when I have reflected on those moments and it felt like it was forever ago. I must admit that I am not very happy with the outcome. If I could receive any give for my 42nd birthday, it would be a healthy dose of faith, a full serving of long suffering and of course bravery. Thank you Cathy for remembering my birthday and posting a blog for me. I'll try to be more faithful in reading and responding to your postings. TOMBO
I remember the day Tom was born. My mom took Glory, "Bily Carl" and me to the hospital after school to see the new Hanna. It does seem like yesterday. Next year I will make the cake. Happy Birthday and love, sue laza
THOMAS GUTHRIE -- what a COOL name. I think of the success of those named Guthrie -- Tom, you are smack dab in the "middle" of success! You're young, you've got time to make it and make it just the way you want it. I have learned that life is not what you can get out of it, but life is what you bring to it. Give 'em hell -- Play your God-given part.
