What does OPI stand for anyway?

From the desk of the Fashion Editor:
I went to the store to buy cat food today only to be distracted by the fingernail polish. They have it right there on the end case on purpose you know.
So, does anyone know what OPI stands for? Then I wondered who names these polishes. I picked up a new one today called: Will You Mari-achi Me? Sadly, the color wasn't as cool as the name.
I then wondered if women are ever influenced to purchase by the name OPI gives to a particular color. Sounds like something I would do, but not today; I resisted. Here's my current OPI inventory:
  • First Dance
  • Lovander
  • Nomad's Dream
  • Most Honorable Red
  • Never Lon-Done Shopping

I would like to note that the all time best, sheer pink polish is Mademoiselle by Esse.

Haven't a clue what OPI stands for. Even went to their website. Let me correct you, though, the best soft pink color is OPI's Shanhai Shimmer. It's perfect. My favorite color I usually end up using is Smoke'n in Havanna. Not red, not orange, not brown but a perfect combination of all 3. Glory

I called the OPI 800 number and asked the question, "What does OPI stand for?" I was told that the man who founded to company was origially an Orthodontist with a company called: Odontrium Products Incorported. When he switched to nail polish he just kept OPI.
Another FASCINATING bit of trivia, is that acrylic nails were derived from advancements in the dental industry. All they had to do is refine the product they use to make false teeth so that it could be filed like fingernails.

That is so cool about OPI! And three cheers to you for doing the legwork to find it out! Silly me, I thought that acrylic nails were just yet another discovery made possible by our trip to the moon...

"Our Polish Instead" is what 'OPI' stands for? That is so cheesy! OPI should stand for something scientific or funny...
OPI can KMA!

Sue,
I went to the OPI website and played around with that "try it on studio" feature. It was really cool. Did you REALLY get Blue My Mind? Crazy! I want to get Black Onyx, but I think I'll wait until closer to Halloween. <3 Cat

Right now I have on my toes: Smoke'n in Havanna and on my fingers: Hawaiian Orchid. Both were suggested to me on this post. I love them.

The Blue is great. Also got Hey get in Lime. It is beautiful. Black polish is apparently the color of the stars. suelaza
